Agent Mulder discovered the X-Files in the early 1990s. At the time, the department was effectively a dumping ground for unsolved cases, and Mulder was intrigued, reading all the cases he could find. To his superiors' chagrin, Mulder began to investigate the X-Files, earning himself the nickname "Spooky Mulder" from his peers. In an attempt to dissuade him from further investigation of the cases, his superiors assigned Agent Dana Scully to work with him and apply her scientific analysis to his work.
